The Log Cabin Block is a traditional block that many quilters learn early in their quilting journey. A Log Cabin quilt is an excellent place for a beginner to start. Easy strip piecing brings quick gratification for the new quilter and builds confidence. But don’t be fooled. There are many variations in the Log Cabin block that will bring results that will astound you. It can also be used as just a part of a quilt, to accent or compliment other blocks.
Irish Cabin is a perfect example. An Irish Chain is combined with a Log Cabin. It’s a quick and easy quilt that is strip pieced. The pattern is for a queen or king sized quilt but there are guidelines included so you can vary the size and make a smaller version if you like.
Color Bridge pairs the Log Cabin with the Bear Paw. Two fairly easy blocks that, when arranged just right look quite stunning. The designer, Elisa Wilson of Elisa’s Backporch Designs, suggests batiks for this pattern. This quilt finishes at 66″ square. Would it look great hanging in your den or family room? Or thrown across the back of your couch?
Flowers In My Cabin combines the Log Cabin block with applique. The applique can be done by hand or by machine.
