Orange – The Underappreciated Color

Recently, while preparing to start an arty quilt with goldfish, I searched my stash for just the right orange.  It was a quick search - I have so little orange!  Lots of blues, brown, greens, creams, whites, and reds, but just a few oranges.  And I don’t know why.  It’s a lovely color, with good manners.  It will never give you the cold shoulder, but always a warm welcome.  So I’m off on a search for more orange.

Sunny Daisies on an orange background in American Jane Snippets clearly says “Summer”.

Splish Splash Spots Orange is a double dose of happy… polka dots and orange all in the same fabric.

Surf ‘N Safari is a bright, bold, must-be-noticed orange!  The background undulates from the lightest shade to a deep orange with an overlay of splatters in even darker orange.

Happy yellow swirls are paired with small blue dots on an orange background in Play Date.  It’s  a litte heavy on the yellow, but  this one . . . .

. . . . with yellow in the form of smallish stars on the same background (also in the Play Date line) gives a hint of yellow, and lets the orange take center stage.

Garden Party orange is very soft and underplayed.  It could be used in a project and wouldn’t shout orange, but a warm feeling would still result.

Getting back to my goldfish, I think Splash Papaya might be just right. It will really pop against the background of many different blues.

Do you have any orange quilt fabric in your stash?

Going Dotty! Fabrics with Dots and Diamonds

There is something about fabrics with dots that adds a happy look to quilts.  Fun, funky, playful, modern, retro… all rolled into one.   Here’s a few of my favorites.

Modern Muddle Green from Print Concepts has a 70′s look and yet it looks totally modern.  The white stripes bring even more energy to the look.

Add these Modern Muddle coordinating fabrics for a quilt that will liven up any space: college dorm room, family room, teen’s room.

I love the white ribbon that winds around in little curlicues in the Riverwoods Collection.  This dotty fabric is available in four different colors: blue, red, cream, and green.    If you are tired of the same old shades of red and green for Christmas projects, these fabrics are a great alternative.  For coordinating fabrics there is a cream with snowflakes and a fun blue plaid.

Are you looking for bright and bold?Bright, colorful, friendly dinasours are scattered across an equally colorful background of different sized dots.  Though they are from different fabric lines, this One Bizillion BC goes nicely with the Pound Hound dotty fabrics.

This weekend you can save 10% on any and all of the fabrics in our Dots and Diamonds quilt fabric category.  Just head on over to our QuiltersWarehouse Facebook Page for the coupon code.  It’s good through the end of the day Sunday.

Quilt Fabric Collections

If you look at the Quilting Fabric page on our QuiltersWarehouse website you will notice a new category called “Fabric Collections“.   These are collections of half yard cuts (and sometimes a panel) from the same fabric line.   No worries about “will this fabric go with the first one I chose?”   No problems gathering several fabrics and making sure they all work together.  It’s already done!  You can pair some of these up with patterns from the “Six Halves Make A Whole” series of books, as several of the collections have 6 half yard cuts or more.

The American Valor Fabric Collection comes with 7 half yard cuts of patriotic prints and a complete panel of the the American Valor quilt fabric by Jo Morton.  You can make a generous sized lap quilt from this collection.

Do you need to make any baby quilts for new arrivals?  The Monkey Games Fabric Collection includes 1 panel and 8 1/2 yard cuts.  Be creative and you can probably get a crib quilt, plus a small wallhanging from one collection.

Dr Suess fabric is another popular choice for baby quilts.  I even know a few adults that would love a quilt from this Cat In The Hat Collection. It’s true, I do. By hook or by crook, they would love to have a quilt. With a book, or a nook, they would snuggle with a quilt.

Do you have a wanna-be cowboy in your life?  Or perhaps a real cowboy?  The Buckaroo Fabric Collection has 7 half yard cuts of fabric by ADORNit.

Check out the rest of the collections and come back often because we’ll be adding more Fabric Collections!

Spring Quilt Fabric

Tulip Tonals Salmon

and Tulip Tonals Sky by Kona Cotton are soft, rich looking, tone on tone fabrics.  Beautiful colors with romantic tulips scattered about.

Fusions Spring by Robert Kaufman Fabrics is a multi colored background with white flowers.  This makes a great border fabric.  I’ve used it around the Periwinkle Lane blocks and it looks so pretty with them.

This is Maisy Green Flowers by Andover Fabrics.  There is a whole line of Maisy Fabrics and they are bright, colorful and fun.

Empress Bouquest Spring by Robert Kaufman is an explosion of spring flowers, bursting forth from the brown “dirt”.  They look like they just can’t contain their enthusiasm for spring!

Garden Party by Troy has a blue background with buds and flowers scattered all about.  This whimsical print also comes in a lilac background.

Sage Wildflower by Timeless Treasures has a light green marbled background and is bordered by basket weave stripes.  The flowers and leaves are delicately illustrated and are being visited by butterflies.

Go to QuiltersWarehouse and click on Quilting Fabric Categories, then on Florals and you’ll find nine pages of floral fabrics just waiting for a Spring project.
