New Items at QuiltersWarehouse

It’d be hard to get any easier than this!  Fieldstones can be made from  scraps and you can enjoy seeing bits of all your recent quilts.  Or showcase a new or favorite fabric line and make it from Layer Cakes and Jelly Rolls.    A perfect quilt to showcase a line of fabric or all the fabrics from your recent quilts.  Instructions for crib, lap and twin size.  A pillow pattern is also included.

Goober Peas has a great diagonal or on-point look to it but it’s just hourglass blocks and oversized center nine patch blocks.  Again, easy, but with a great look.  This quilt is a good one for using your reproduction scraps.

We can’t quilt non-stop. Sometimes we have to shop!  Here’s a cute bag you can make to carry with you on your next shopping trip.  You’ll get lots of help with neat tips and cool tricks when you make this EZ Bag.   You can dress this one up or make it flirty and casual. Bet you’ll make more than one!

Control your scraps and make your own Charm Squares.  This Charm Wizard ruler makes it easy.  Also great for fussy cutting.

Blizzard Table Runner can be made with the stitchery center – a very cute snowman – or without.  It’s a winner either way.  If you make it without the stitchery you can use red white and blue fabrics and you’ll have a stunning patriotic table runner.

These are just a few of the new items.  Check out the rest of the new quilt patterns at Quilters Warehouse.

It’s July – Time to start quilting for Christmas

By July we’re far enough away from last Christmas to start thinking Christmas again.  And far enough away from the next Christmas that we believe if we start now we’ll be ready when the holiday arrives.  How does the saying go?  Hope springs eternal!  One of these years we will be ready early and not have to rush to finish.  But then would it really seem like Christmas?

So, while we’re in the midst of the summer heat, this is a good time to find some quilt patterns and select some Christmas fabric and start sewing.

These snowmen are adorable..  You can use this fabric for borders. If you are making a set of items (like a table runner, a lap quilt and a wall hanging) all for the same room, wouldn’t they look great if you used a different section of this Black Snowflakes fabric on each one.

This Log Cabin Christmas pattern has instructions for a mantle scarf (with a decidely different flair!), placemats & a table runner.

Try this pattern (Winter’s Stars) with your favorite large print Christmas fabric – maybe some poinsettias.  Or change the color way and use snowflakes in the large squares and make the stars in blues and and whites and golds

Six Halves Makes A Whole Chrismas will keep you busy well past the end  of July!  There are patterns for six different projects (each using 6 half yard cuts of fabric) including stockings, a tree skirt, pillow shams and lap quilts.  If you choose your fabric carefully, the lap quilts will be able to stay out for the entire winter season and not just for Christmas.  Or, better yet, make one in very Christmassy fabric and one in blues and whites and greys.

There are dozens of Christmas patterns specifically for Christmas and then there are hundreds of other quilt patterns that you can turn into Christmas patterns by using Christmas fabric.  Have fun and Merry Christmas (in July)!

Soooo very many patterns!

There are so many quilt patterns to be found at Quilters Warehouse. In the Pieced Pattern section there are over 1400 patterns! You could browse for hours. So, to save you some time (time you can use to actually quilt!) I pulled a few patterns from deep in the selection just to show you a few of the possibilities.

Boston Logs  is fat quarter friendly.  The blocks are put together like log cabin blocks and then laid out in a Boston Commons manner.  You’ll use Stack ‘n Slash, Switch ‘n Stitch technique – Fun!  This is easy enough for a beginner and will be quick and fun for the more experienced quilter.  This would look great with light green background and rose colors in place of the blue – like a rose garden.

This one is great for all your scraps. You can make Boot Roundup as splashy and “out there” looking as you want.  Have fun as you watch your scrap pile diminish.  Any horse lover or country girl would love to have this quilt.

Fractured Diamonds is certainly a different look.  There are instructions for two sizes: a wall hanging (40 x 60) and full size (104 x 87). This is your chance to experiment with color.

Make your bedroom a peaceful place with Zen Garden.   This quilt is King size (100 x 108) and features a separate panel for the head of the bed. Sweet Dreams!

I hope you enjoyed our peek into the midst of the patterns.  Next time you take a coffee break browse through the patterns and see what you can find.

Quilting Books for Summer Reading

Many of us are enjoying the outdoors while the weather is good.  Sadly that doesn’t leave as much time for quilting.  But you can take a book along with you when you go to the beach or the pool or on a picnic.  Or maybe you like to sit on the porch and read.

Once Upon A Summer is a book of twelve projects inspired by a summer trip to California.  Heather Mulder of Anka’s Treasures spent her honeymoon in the San Francisco Bay area and just couldn’t help but think about quilts.
Amish Wall Quilts by Rachel Pellman contains fifteen projects.  This book will show you how to replicate Amish quilts in a wall quilt size. Rachel has lots of knowledge and information to share with you.

Simple Quilts includes instructions for 20 quilts from lap size to queen size, each in two color ways.  Nicole Chambers explains what makes these simple patterns produce stunning quilts.  And if you enjoy this book, there is a “sequel” called More Simple Quilts.

Another winner by Nicole Chambers, The Quilt Maniac’s Playbook has instructions for twelve quilts and six table runners in a wide variety of styles.  Plus Nicole will teach you all about color and in a way you can understand and use to select just the right colors for your next project.

That’s just a few of the quilting books available.  There are over 150 from which to choose.  So settle down with a good book while you enjoy the outdoors.  Learn some more about your quilting passion and at the same time, plan you next project.

Fun & Done Quilt Patterns

Fun & Done Quilt Patterns from Prairie Sky Quilting are just that.  Fun to make – you can see you quilt come together right before your eyes.  And they are Done before you know it.  Finish the top and you are Done!

If you stopped at Prairieland Quilts during the shop hop that’s going on now, then you may have seen Suzanne demonstrate this easy quilt-as-you-go method.  (And there’s still time! The shop hop is going until the end of the day tomorrow.)

The Batting Budding is a template that will make the process easier but you can make one of these quilts without it, too.   Use the outer template to cut your backing; use the inner template to cut your batting.  Lay down your backing, then use the outer template again to help center the batting on the backing.

Then start sewing your top pieces on.  There are templates included in the patterns to get you started.  After you complete one block, you trim the top and the batting; you’ll have backing extending beyond the block.  The excess backing will be use to sew the blocks together.

After you have a row of blocks sewn together the backing between the blocks is folded over to each side with the raw edges under the fold and these pieces are top-stitched down.

See? Almost done!  The rows are sewn together.  The backing is brought around to the front all along the edges, turned under and topstitched to create the binding. And now you ARE done!

Here’s a finished Fun & Done Quilt . . .

If you’re ready to try this there are a dozen patterns from which to choose.

Ruth Grihalva and Raggedy Ruth Designs

Raggedy Ruth Designs is new to Quilters Warehouse but Ruth Grihalva is certainly not new to quilting and designing.  Ruth has been sewing since she was a girl. Her grandmother taught her quilting and when Ruth’s son was born she really got hooked on quilting.  Since then there has been no stopping her.  So with Raggedy Ruth Designs debut at Quilters Warehouse there are 32 patterns that run the gamut from simple, cute placemats to king size quilts.   The patterns are cleary written so a careful beginner should be able to complete any of the quilts.

These placemats are as easy to make as they are cute.   Perfect for picnics.  Load the Take A Bite Out Of Summer placemats with napkins and plastic cutlery, then roll them up and pack them in the picnic basket.  These would make a great shower gift.

Do you have a Snips & Pin Catcher?  These things are sooooo handy.  Mine has taken up residence just to the right of my sewing machine and I don’t know what I’d do without it!

Pathway to the Stars is one of those quilts that looks more complicated than it is.  And with Ruth’s clear instructions and illustrations it should go together without a hitch.

This is Bear’s Paw Sampler.  Isn’t it pretty.  The colors in the example are really pretty, but wouldn’t it look good with blues & greys & greens? Made this way the quilt finishes at 60″ X 48″ – perfect for a throw.  There are also instructions for adding log cabin blocks around the entire quilt and then it will finish at 84″ X 72″.

These are just a few of the patterns by Raggedy Ruth Designs.  Check out the rest of them.  While you are there browse some other quilt patterns.  So many to see.
