Pattern, Plus Fabric!, Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed.  Winner has been chosen, notified, and is listed at the end of this post.  Thanks for visiting!

Time for a giveaway!  This time we’re giving away a pattern, and some background fabric to get you started.

Fall Wreath Pattern

Mary Herschleb of MH Designs has dozens of paper pieced patterns.  You’ll find wall hangings, placemats, table runners and toppers, ornaments and more.   The changing seasons, nature, vacations, family, and humor all have found a place in her projects.  Fall Wreath is a 15″ x 15″ wallhanging or mini table topper that can be as colorful and as vibrant as you want.  Pull our your scraps or buy a handful of fat eighths.

To get you started we’re going to include 3/4 yard of a background fabric.  This will give you enough for the block background, for the borders, the backing, and even the binding.  All you need to add is the color!

Marble Mate Ivory by Moda will make a perfect background.  It doesn’t have a distracting pattern but it does have enough value variation to make it interesting. You should have just a little left over to add to your scrap pile.

You have a few chances to enter the giveaway . . .

Oh, Christmas Tree Quilt Patterns

It’s fun to have a Christmas tree in a couple different rooms.  Fun, but not practical.  So make a tree wall hanging.  It’s the next best thing.  It’ll last forever with no dry needles falling on the floor!

O’ Christmas Tree is a applique pattern with a simple tree silhouette.  Ornaments, garland, and a star tree topper make it festive.  Measuring 23″ x 31″, this wall hanging will fit most anywhere.

Easy fusible web and fusible bias tape create this Christmas Tree stained glass pattern.

Gather ‘Round The Tree finishes at 60″ x 60″.  It’s simple enough to piece – just squares, square-in-squares, and half square triangles – that you’ll have time to embellish the tree with ornaments and add some colorful gifts under the tree.

Oh Christmas Tree reminds me of the short, squat Scotch Pine.   Grab your greens and reds and you’ll be finished in no time at all.

Light Up Your Christmas is just loaded with lights and ornaments and decorations…. so festive!  Fusible web helps create this fully decorated Christmas tree.

Flannel chinelle makes this Holiday Christmas Tree really stand out in a 3D way.  Let your imagination take you where it will as you embellish with beads, buttons, anything!

It’s early, we know, but remember how Christmas creeps up on you every year?   Beat the rush this time and start some Christmas projects now.

Happy sewing!

Fall Wall Hangings

>We might not be having fall weather yet, but it is September so we all know that it’s coming.   The summer adventures are behind us and we’re looking ahead to fall activities and holidays.   During the ‘in-between’ you have time to make a wall hanging to dress your home for the season.  Here are just a few suggestions . . . .

This scarecrow looks like he is thinking about job security!  If the farmer sees all the birds hanging around he just might be getting his pink slip, so he’s hollering Shoo!, apparently to no avail.

Nothing says fall like apples and apple picking.  This Apple wall hanging measures 22″ square.   A combination of patchwork and applique, this quilt pattern is also available with fabric: Apple Complete Kit.

Soon we’ll be treated to the annual Autumn Cascade of colorful leaves.  We love to see the colors on the trees, and watch the colorful leaves floating to the ground.  Raking them, well that’s another matter altogether!  Enjoy them on your wall – no raking required!

Book 3 in the Table Topper Series is Fall.  Susan and Mary Jane of The Quilt Branch provide instructions for three fall themed table toppers.  You can make one for each fall month.

This Fall Sampler wallhanging pattern also includes instructions for a scarecrow table runner pattern.  Two patterns in one!

First Quilt – Selecting a Pattern

So you are ready to make your first quilt.  Excited?  Of course you are!  Choosing just the right pattern for a first quilt will enable you to finish the quilt and enjoy your success.   It’s always a good idea to start small.  Go for a pattern that features simple blocks and only straight lines, squares and rectangles.  Save the triangles for your next quilt.   A table runner, baby quilt or lap quilt are all good choices for a first project.

You’ll learn about quick piecing with Ready, Set, Go and the seam matching is kept to a minimum.   Finishing at 45″ x 63″ it’s just right for tossing on the couch so it brightens the room.

Easy as 10…11…12 is just that easy.  These three quick quilts are in three sizes.  The smallest is just right for a baby, the medium for a toddler and the largest for a preteen.  Finish all you and you are going to be so hooked on quilting!

Easy Bake isn’t quite as quick as a cake in an Easy Bake oven but it won’t take that much longer.   And it’ll be as bright and fun as the fabrics you choose.

Turn The Table is a table runner pattern that is so easy but so striking that you’ll probably find yourself using this pattern over and over again.  Instructions are included for the “quilt as you go” method, or you can choose to finish it in the traditional way.

The Log Cabin Star is made with only straight cuts of fabric but you’ll see angles.  The log cabin block is so easy and so versatile…. so many different layouts are possible.  This quilt measures 22″ square. Use it as a wall hanging or a table topper.

My first quilt was a log cabin design and the time I spent playing around with the layouts is when I really became hooked.  I started too large – a queen size! – but I did finish.  The quilt is on the bed in our master bedroom and I still love it, mistakes and all!

Go ahead, if you haven’t already, take the plunge!  You’ll be so glad you did!

Stonehenge Fabric And French Garden Quilt Pattern

Have you seen the Stonehenge Fabrics?  They are beautiful, full of color and texture.

Elisa Wilson of Elisa’s Backporch Design paired the medallion style pre-printed panel available in the Stonehenge fabric line with a border of blocks to simulate a garden walk of tiles in her French Garden quilt pattern.   The quilt finishes at 49″ x 67″; large enough for a snuggle-on-the-couch lap quilt. It would also look great as a wall hanging.

The French Garden is also available as a quilt kit.  The kit includes the pattern, all the fabric for the top and for the binding.

Stonehenge Stucco wide backing (108″) will make finishing a breeze.  And, if you are careful, you can back two quilts with just 2 yards of the backing fabric.

Another option for the center is the Stonehenge Brown Panel.

Or use the same pattern and go for a regal look with the Imperial Collection 8 panel.  Beautiful varied blues on an indigo background are enhanced with silver metallic thread throughout. There are several coordinating blues in the Imperial Collection that will work well for the borders.

If you’ve never made a panel quilt before this pattern is a great one to try.

Happy quilting!

2 Easy Designs Tiny Treasures Wallhangings

Sherry Cooper of 2 Easy Designs has released four more patterns for the Tiny Treasures series.   With one wallhanging for each month of the year you’ll have something fresh to hang as the year passes.  Several of the quilts will work for more than just one month so you might want to have a few hooks available!

The Straight-Laced Boot Wall Hanging is rather whimsical.  What an adorable use for an old boot.  And if the boot has a hole in it (or two!) then that’s even better …. built in drainage.

After you get your flowers planted, it’s time to head to the seashore for some Easy Livin’.  This cute wall hanging is packed with details.  Can you smell the salty air?

I hope Mrs. Ant appreciates it when Mr. Ant says “I’ll Do Anything For You“!   That extra large, juicy watermelon slice sure looks heavy.

The blossoms on the apples trees are gone and the apples are doing their summer job of growing.  Before we know it we’ll be out getting our own Fresh Picked, and enjoying them raw or baking up some apple pies or turnovers.  Yum!

These patterns are each 7 3/4″ x 18 1/2″ so they will fit in a little spot…. maybe your entry, or in a hall, or on that little wall between the bedroom door and the linen closet door.   A door itself might be the perfect spot.  They are also great for office cubicles.  Instant cheer!  If you don’t work in a cubicle, they would make a great gift for someone who does.  Make the summer ones first, then get a head start on the fall and winter patterns.

Happy sewing!
