Lil’ Ducky, You’re The One!

Have you seen the new Lil’ Ducky quilt fabrics?  Caleb Gray designed them for Robert Kaufman fabrics and they are just so cute!

Lil’ Ducky Yellow has a pale yellow background with clouds and raindrops is covered with bright yellow little ducks dancing in the rain, using pretty blue umbrellas (both sucessfully and not!), swimming in puddles and walking around with galoshes and a rain hat.

There are two coordinating blues.  Lil’ Ducky Summer has lots of squares in varied shades of blue.  If you look closely you’ll see that some of the squares seem to sparkle. Sun hitting water from rain?

The other blue is Lil’ Ducky Blue Bubbles and it’s just that…. blue bubbles in different sizes and different shades on a light blue background.  And sparkles are scattered among the bubbles.

And don’t miss Lil’ Ducky With Umbrellas… a white background covered with different colored umbrellas.  Each umbrella has three different shades of its color, adding to the fun look of this fabric.

Now all you need is a baby quilt pattern.  Rock-A-Bye Baby is a simple one – nice and easy and quick - you’ll have a baby snuggled up with those ducks in no time.

Puppy Love Baby Quilt and Diaper Bag would look great with ducks instead of puppies.  Nice easy projects but with great looking results… really showcase those cute duckies.   These two would make a perfect baby shower gift.

The Latest Purse and Bag Patterns

These four patterns are some of the newest for purses and bags at QuiltersWarehouse.

Prairie Charm Point is a fun pattern.  Done in red, white and blue, the prairie points look like festive bunting.   Using a lower contrast background would tone things down a bit if you aren’t quite in a party mood.  The points are also great for displaying decorative pins.

So cute and so fun you’ll be tempted to make just One More Bag.  Foundation piecing makes this one easy.  You can “showcase” all your different scraps.  Finishes at 8 x 10.5 x 3.5

Erica’s Bag is the first pattern from Purse-O-Nalities of Palm Harbor to feature grommets.  They give a different look, nice and clean, and you see them popping up all over these days.  This bag has a roomy patch pocket on the front, a zipper pocket on the back, and lots of pockets inside.

Maddie’s Bag is easy to make tote (15″ x 12″ x 3.5″) that leaves you with lots of ways to personalize it just for you.  The top band is perfect for a bit of embroidery or applique.

These next two aren’t new but they sure are cute!  And now is the time to get a jump on them!

The Santa and the Snowman Gift Bags are a clever way to wrap up any little gift…. ingredients for cookies, flavored popcorn, homemade donuts.  Use your imagination and have some fun.  This could the start of a tradition in your family.  Everyone will look forward to their “bag gift” and wonder what surprise is inside!

As you know, there are a gazillion (well maybe just hundreds) more purse and bag patterns to see at QuiltersWarehouse.  Happy browsing!

Four Patch Quilt Patterns – Simply Creative

The four patch quilt block is probably the first block many of us learned to make.  Such a simple, easy block with so much potential!  Here are some patterns that make use of the four patch.

Rainbow Cuddler alternates four patch blocks with large square of fabric to create several diagonal rows of color.  Quick and easy to make, you can keep the rainbow theme or use favorite colors or even the colors of a favorite sports team.

Carrie Nation ’02 sets four patch blocks on point and gives this queen size quilt lots of motion.   Since stars are also an incidental part of the design, red white and blue fabrics would be another great option for this quilt.

Two color hearts appliqued to two color blocks alternate with four patch blocks in Four Patch Hearts.  Instructions are included for several sizes… small, twin, double and king.

Flow Blue – Charm looks complicated but it’s not!  Four patches and half square triangles are all need.  Perfect for charms squares with lots of darks and medium.  Then add your favorite light background.  Play with other colorways.  1930′s prints would make this a cheery quilt.  Or all pinks for a little girl.

Four On The Floor is so quick and easy!  Rows of four patches set on point are alternated with a row fabric.  The designer used Look Learn Playtime but you can use any that you like. If you don’t have a favorite row fabric, stripes would be a fun alternative.

Who knew learning to make a four patch would open so many creative doors? Browse through some more quilt patterns on your own and see what other simple blocks turn into fabulous quilt patterns.

Painted Pony ‘N Quilt Patterns

When you read the name Painted Pony ‘N Quilts don’t you get a picture of colorful, fun looking quilts?  Well, you’d be right.  Sherrie Thomas’s  patterns are full of life and color.   Many of her patterns are pieced but a few have some applique.  Any skill level quilter will find a pattern to suit them.

Diamond Chain is fat quarter friendly and with pastels it’s the perfect new baby gift.  Or use bright colors to please a toddler.  With squares only, this quilt will go together fast, fast, fast!

Shown here in soft, muted colors with a white background, Starry Sampler is made with three different blocks.  Log cabin pieces surround the star blocks and nine patches fill the background.  You might want to try a cream or beige background with golds, browns, and reds for the blocks.  A black background with bright bold colors would give you a completely different look.

Would you look at this?!  A LeMoyne Star pattern with no ‘Y’ seams!  1930′s fabrics are the perfect choice to make Stars in Granny’s Garden.  With just a wee bit of applique to finish the look, you’ll find it hard to part with this quilt once its finished.

Vintage Sampler really is a sampler…. including piecing, some applique, and six bloks with hand embroidery.  Learn new skills or just put the ones you already know to good use.  You can dig into your scrap box with this one and make a bit of a dent.

That’s just four of the patterns offered by Painted Pony ‘N Quilts.  Check out the rest of them… there’s not a dull one in the bunch!

Christmas In July – Part Three

Christmas is exactly six months away. If you started sewing for Christmas earlier this month you probably have an item or two finished already.  Doesn’t that feel good?!  Here’s a few more suggestions to help you continue on your way.  Or to give you a push if you haven’t started yet!

I love this fabric.  I’ve used it in so many projects.  As an accent, a background, a border.  It’s a pretty color with a pretty, understated design.  Love it!

Here’s a beautiful tone on tone red fabric.  Happy little swirls sprinkled with little stars in a gorgeous red…. not an “in your face” red, but a dark, muted red.

Can you hear the bells ringing?  A mottled green background with gold bells scattered all over – can’t you see it paired with the gold fabric above?

Never A Pair! designed by Mary Kerr makes a cute lone mitten or a lone stocking… who knows where the mate has gone.   Decorate your tree or give as gifts.

If you need a new tree skirt One Crazy Christmas is a good choice.  You’ll get instructions for three projects…. a tree skirt, a wall hanging, and a stocking.  Crazy quilting and reverse applique are used on all three items.

Folk Art Christmas measures 55″ x 57″.  It’s so colorful and cheerful.  Now is the time to start on this one to be sure it’s finished in plenty of time to hang for the holiday season.

Go pour yourself a nice tall glass of iced tea or cool lemonade and cool off looking at all the Christmas patterns and Christmas fabric
